Welcome to my Web site

I'm an award-winning freelance medical and health writer and editor. I've won more than a dozen writing and journalism awards for my work.

As a writer and editor, I'm passionate about good health and wellness, conscientious medicine, and the art of the English language. I've written for dozens of consumer health magazines, trade medical magazines, Web sites for health clinicians and medical journals over the last 19 years. I also have expertise in writing advisory board reports for health communications and pharmaceutical companies. I've helped write several consumer health books and served as editor and project manager for several medical books for clinicians.

I'm also a published essayist and poet, and in my spare time I write home and design articles for national magazines.

  My Upcoming Book

Reduce Your Cancer Risk

My newest project is a preventive health book about reducing risk for cancer, co-authored with Michael Stefanek, PhD, a researcher who focuses  on psychosocial and behavioral oncology  and former director of the Behavioral Research Center at the American Cancer Society. It's a step-by-step guide on how to accurately assess your personal risk for cancer and take steps to definitively reduce that risk. The book discussess everything from using the Web for finding information about cancer risk to genetic counseling to the benefits of exercise, losing weight, nutrition and preventive medications.  The book includes personalized information for those with a family history of cancer as well as cancer survivors. It also discusses how to best  make behavioral changes to reduce your cancer risk. Look for it in May 2010, published by Demos Medical Publishing and the American Cancer Society.
